mourner More fierceness and aggression, less atmosphere makes this more melodic black than the predecessors. Still great cover artwork. Let's see where Malist goes from here. One thing is sure though, he will do it right. Favorite track: Misanthropic Bliss.

David Fischer As I Become Darkness has Malist change direction, letting go ov the intense atmosphere that made the Karst Realm trilogy very special. The result is a more traditional second-wave worship, cold and relentless, with plenty good riffs and a thick sound. There's repeated acoustic guitar usage, which is great. Unfortunately, it does not reach the heights of its predecessors. Not every album has to be groundbreaking though, and this is still more than solid. Good black metal for any occasion! Favorite track: Existence in Ruin.

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74
